Premiere: Jon Wolfe’s Favorite Cabo San Lucas Bar Inspires “Tequila Sundown”

“Pass the salt and the lime/We got nothing but time,” sings Jon Wolfe in his latest release, “Tequila Sundown.” For the song’s video, Wolfe and his team headed to one of his favorite hangouts in Cabo San Lucas, The Usual Suspects–the very bar that inspired the song in the first place. Scenes of Wolfe hanging out with buddies are interspersed with performance shots, as he sings of relaxed evenings spent in a bar and “trying to make the señoritas smile.”

On the day Jon Wolfe lost his best friend, he spent the night looking for the song that he would forever sing in his honor. “I really didn’t want to face it,” explains the Texas country star in a revealing interview with Taste of Country about the loss of his dear friend, Conrad Soriano. “I was so angry, to be honest. That night I poured up a glass of whiskey and just sat there listening to pitch songs for my new project. I came across this song…and I just started crying.”

Every winter, Jon and I take some time off to recharge in Cabo with friends and family. On one particular trip, we were meeting friends for a celebratory New Year’s dinner. One our way to the restaurant, Jon said we needed to pick up one of our friends at a nearby resort and that we’d stop to have a cocktail too. As we walked up the coastline to meet our friend, I saw a gorgeous gazebo draped in white fabric. Jon then admitted he planned a romantic, culinary experience for just the two of us on the beach.
